STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCES
In his TED Talk, Rick Steves describes the value of Travel and how it facilitates the learning of different cultures and an understanding of oneself and his or her place in this vast world. The importance of travel as a form of learning that can't be done in any classroom is something I believe to be true. For this reason I took the initiative to Study Abroad as much as possible and have participated in Study Abroad trips offered through the University of Cincinnati and its Honors Program.
On the River... Experiencing the Brazilian Amazon
In the spring of my freshmen year, I enrolled in the class "On the River... Experiencing the Brazilian Amazon" as a research course that would take a 10 day trip to Brazil over Spring Break to look at the ecology and culture of the Brazilian Amazon. Little did I know when enrolling that I wouldn't just be learning about Brazil, I would be learning about myself. Click on the title above to learn more.
Public Health in South Africa
In the fall of my second year, I enrolled in a course called Public Health in South Africa. This course focused on infectious disease throughout the world and the public health aspects that go along with holistic treatment for diseases such as HIV and TB. Over winter break myself and 11 other UC students then traveled to South Africa to experience the public health system in South Africa. Click on the title above to learn more.
Grassroots Onsite Work (GROW) Internship
During the entirety of my second year at UC, I participated in a paid Global Health Internship partnered with GlobeMed and Social Action for Women, an NGO in Mae Sot, Thailand. During the internship, I served as GROW Coordinator for the GROW team, as selected by the Co-Presidents of the UC Chapter. Click on the above title to learn more.
Exploring the Food Culture of Europe
During the months of August and September backpacking through Spain, France, and Italy with another friend of mine from the University of Cincinnati. During this experience, I focused on the role that food plays within the European culture. Click on the title above to learn more.
Exploring the Culture of the UK through a Semester Exchange
During the fall semester of 2015, I participated a semester long study abroad experience at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. During this experience I immersed myself in the culture of the United Kingdom while learning about myself. Click on the title above to learn more.
Connections through Language
During the summer of 2016, I traveled to Italy, going to Milan, the Italian Lake District, Verona, and Venice. Prior to my arrival in Italy I began learning Italian through Rosetta Stone in order to better get in touch with the Italian culture. Click on the title above to learn more.
