Hello! My name is Austin Francis Menezes. I was born in raised in San Diego, California and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to study at the University of Cincinnati. I am currently a fourth year student in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences and the Lindner College of Business studying both Cell and Molecular Biology and Operations Management, with a Pre-Med concentration. I am in the Connections Dual Admissions BS/MD program for Medicine, the Kolodzik Business Scholars Program, the University Honors Program, and am a Cincinnatus Scholar.
Throughout my first year at UC I took the initiative to continue pursuing some of my passions from high school such as music, the outdoors, and health by participating in organizations such the UC Bearcat Bands, the Mountaineering Club, and GlobeMed. In my second year, I became truly engaged in my community by taking up leadership positions in both GlobeMed (as GROW Internship Coordinator) and the Bearcat Bands (as Clarinet Section Leader). At this same time, I was able to discover a new passions of mine by getting involved with the Orientation Office at UC where I was a 2014 Student Orientation Leader and then a 2015 Student Orientation Coordinator, two major leadership roles here on campus. This extensive leadership experience and my demonstrated dedication did not go unnoticed resulting in me being awarded the Sophomore Leader of the Year Award from Omicron Delta Kappa, a prominent leadership honorary fraternity on campus. I currently hold many more leadership positions acting as the GlobeMed Community Building Director as well as the Student Government Director of Health and Wellness.
Additionally, through my time thus far at UC, I was able to explore my passions for traveling and experiencing new cultures through various study abroad programs. Thus far I have been able to travel to Brazil and South Africa with the Honors Department and have participated in a health internship with GlobeMed in Mae Sot, Thailand in the summer of 2015. I then participated in a semester exchange in the UK with the University of Birmingham in the fall of 2015 and have since been back to Europe for another Honors Experience.
Over the past years here in Cincinnati, I have been given the opportunity to experience so many new things and get involved with many great organizations. This involvement has allowed me to grow personally in immeasurable ways that have made me a more understanding and outgoing individual, not to mention a much stronger leader. Additionally, I believe that I have been able to make a positive impact on both the Cincinnati community and my global community. I believe that these things would not have been possible had I not decided to join the #HottestCollegeinAmerica and take in all the opportunities this fine institution has presented me.
